Paving & Resurfacing
Whenever we think of a nice asphalted surface, we usually focus on how clean the finish looks. But as contractors, we know that the quality of the surface is based on the foundation of the asphalt pavement. So, when it comes to the paving and resurfacing, we will focus most of our time understanding the foundation and improving from there.
Whether we are installing a residential driveway or a commercial parking lot, we will begin the process by evaluating the project site. We will look at the soil conditions, any elevation changes, the site drainage, and then finally how the pavement will be used over time. With water being one of asphalt's biggest enemies, we will make sure that water flows away from the pavement instead of collecting on it.
Therefore, we will make sure the site is properly drained. This will also make sure the property is aggregate base layer is properly compacted. This base layer will make sure the pavement on top is properly supported. If the base layer is not installed correctly, then you will find problems in the asphalt surface like cracking, becoming brittle, or developing low spots for water to settle.
After the base layer is properly prepared and installed, we will use our equipment to make sure the asphalt is installed correctly. Properly installed asphalt should appear to be a dense durable surface that will last many years.
Instead of removing and replacing an entire asphalt layer, we might find that resurfacing is an excellent alternative. If we find that the existing pavement has a solid base, we do not have to tear out the entire surface. Instead, we will just take off a layer and install a new coat on top.
Before the resurfacing process begins, we will make sure to secure any areas that need to be addressed. When those areas are fixed, we will then do the resurfacing. This resurfacing will create a nice smooth and uniform pavement on top of the existing pavement.
We have found that some homeowners and business owners have chosen to completely replace an entire parking area when a resurfacing could have been accomplished. This would lead to a tremendous cost savings. Whatever the goal we propose, the purpose is to find a solution that makes the most sense. Sometimes, it is a completely new surface, and other times is will be resurfacing. But by taking the time at the beginning of the project to understand the surface and drainages, we have found that the best long term solution will be found. This will create the proper paving and resurfacing solution, which will make the property last longer and it will give the property a nice new look.
